Heathrow airport loses 10 strong male choir from Nepal

Posted by Dean Tomlinson

In one of the largest airports in the world, London Heathrow, a men’s choir from Nepal has disappeared.

The ten strong choir, who were invited to the UK to participate in a music festival, did not come out of the arrival hall to meet their awaiting hosts. British immigration officials searched for three days for the men who apparently have been lost in London’s “Bermuda Triangle”.

After some time the missing men attempted to communicate with the proper authorities and said that they are in one of the houses near the famous football arena Wembley Stadium, about 24 miles from Heathrow.

A bus has been sent to the address that they have indicated in order to assist the choir. However, when the bus arrived at the scene, the singers were gone again.

The main organizer of the festival, David Peters could not explain what happened with the representatives during their time at Heathrow.

Manchester Airport unveils redevelopment of Terminal 3

Posted by Dean Tomlinson

After the re-development of terminals 1 & 2, Terminal 3 has had the final stages of its re-development project unveiled.

The changes at terminal 3 were made after passenger scores dropped following the completion of re-development work at terminals 1 & 2. Passengers suggested that they would like to see better way finding, more seats in the departure area, more flight information screens, an improved security area with more lanes open and better retail and catering.

Manchester Airport Said “Although this work addresses the main five areas of concern for our passengers, we know that there’s more to do. Passenger feedback will continue to be part of our focus on creating a great experience for travellers through Manchester Airport.”

More than £2 million has been invested in Terminal 3’s redesign in addition to the £80 million investment in redeveloping Terminals 1 and 2 since the start of the project in 2007.

The Terminal 3 work includes the modernisation of flight information screens with the introduction of several plasma screens, clearer way finding signage, replacement flooring tiles on the upper level, plus the creation of four brand new shops and one new catering unit on the upper level.

Belfast International introduces last minute smoking fee

Posted by Dean Tomlinson

Belfast international has become the first airport to charge passengers, should they want to have one last cigarette before takeoff.

There has been a growing trend amongst most UK regional airports to charge passengers for services which used to be provided free of charge. These ancillary charges have become a useful way for these airports to raise extra cash. However, Belfast International have gone one step further and have introduced a £1 charge. The fee is paid via a coin in a machine which opens doors to a special smoking area situated near the main duty-free zone.

Quoted in Belfast Telegraph, outgoing Assemblywoman Dawn Purvis, a former smoker, described the fee as “ridiculous.”

She said, “I used to smoke before I got on a flight and it used to calm me down. Most people who smoke know it’s going to be a long time before they get another smoke, so they go for a puff before they get on the plane.”

In a statement, Belfast International said, “We recognise that there was a demand for a smoking facility from some customers given that all public places (including airports) are now, and have been for a number of years, non-smoking.”

“We are responding to that demand. However providing a specialist facility for a relatively small number of users is expensive to build and to maintain so it is not unreasonable that a small charge should be levied for the use of the facility.”

The airport is also keen to point out that passengers who do not wish to pay for the privilege can smoke in the front of the terminal building. But this location is landside (whereas the £1 zone is airside) so unsuitable if you need to smoke shortly before boarding.

Feel Like a VIP by booking an airport lounge

What a great way to start your holiday; as part of the complete relaunch of SkyParkSecure, we have added a full range of airport lounges to our web site which will be available for you to add to your booking next week.

All over the UK you can enjoy the luxury of up to 3 hours rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the airport while you enjoy unlimited free drinks and snacks and a selection of newspapers and magazines to read.

With lounges at 21 UK airports, and options available abroad too, you can truly rest in the knowledge that you are in the best possible hands to ensure your holiday gets off to the very best start.

Have a little think about what it costs you when you’re at the airport – by the time you’ve bought food, drinks and something to read it could well end up costing as much if not more than it does to enjoy the relaxing environment of the airport lounge.

Having used a couple myself, I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone who loves the idea of a little peace and quiet before your flight.

If you’ve never used and airport lounge before, why not get it booked now. Tie it in with the ease and luxury of Meet and Greet parking and you simply could not have a better start to your trip.

The hotels are available with our without parking and are located really close to the airport to make sure that you get your trip off to a super start.

SkyparkSecure is taking shape

Posted by Ian

Our legendary hero, back from the dead a couple of years ago, is currently undergoing an extreme make-over, going all nip/tuck and getting himself sorted out.

SkyPark Steve is under the knife as we speak and our friends at Frenzy Creative are turning Steve into the super, travel extras hero that we have always believed that he would become.

Not only is Steve going to look infinitely cooler than he ever has before, he will be appearing at airports and car parks up and down the country this year. He may even star in the odd movie or two.

Keep your eye out for Steve when you arrive at the car park or airport terminal as he may have a little surprise for you.

SkyparkSecure – Past, Present and Future

Posted by Dean Tomlinson

Since 2003, everyone involved in SkyParkSecure have given enormously to turn a company which was offering a mere, solitary car parking product at Liverpool John Lennon Airport, into a thriving, market-leading business full of innovation and pioneering exciting products and projects.

The result is a revolution, not only in how airport parking is booked online, but also how companies in the industry relate to one another and bringing airport parking products to a much wider audience.

The team have never been afraid to try new ideas and constantly push each other to bring out the best of the company.

So where did we begin? In 2003 when SkyParkSecure were offering only one product the web site was incredibly simple and it was even built in such a way that changing the prices for the parking option at Liverpool airport involved editing the code of the web site.

We were parking a matter of only a few hundred cars a month, but were determined to a lot further. We were proud of the fact that our site was the easiest on which to make a booking for airport parking and we do our very best to continue that concept.

One of the biggest developments as we started to add more products was to make it possible to add and amend products within the system quickly and easily. Funny how this proved to be one of the defining improvements of our system over the coming years – some competitors in our industry still don’t offer this feature in their system in 2011, and this is why we were chosen in 2010 to take over from one of the leading lights in the industry by providing a complete version of our system to another operator in the industry.

By 2006, SkyParkSecure were offering over 200 products and the web site had undergone a complete overhaul. It was now possible to not only add and edit all the products on the web site but there were a whole host of new features.

We’re the first company in the travel industry to pioneer offering customers a MultiMedia Message sent to their mobile phone containing all the information about their car parking booking so they could simply turn up at the car park with their phone.  We made it possible for passengers to travel with one less piece of paper, which proved hugely popular.

By this point, SkyParkSecure were parking around 6000 cars every month and were determined to keep the progress going.

To this end the company underwent a major overhaul; the team running everything online was overhauled and a new structure was put in place to make the team more efficient with a view to releasing a new web site within just a few months.

The changes paid off immediately with a new focus not only on how we worked on adding new features to our web site, but also to how we advertised and marketed our products online.

Our email marketing became more focused, we ventured into the affiliate marketing industry and started work on a complete rebuild of our booking system.

Right now, in 2011, we’re regarded as one of the top players in the airport parking industry. We’re officially rated the number 1 travel merchant on Affiliate Window, where other people sell our products. We’re trusted by car parks all over the country to be their number 1 supplier. We’re leading the way in marketing innovations with exciting possibilities close at hand. We hold close relationships with airports all over the country and have built relationships with some of the major operators online, including Quidco and MoneySavingExpert.

We’re predicting an overall growth of nearly 40% this year on last year, having seen a sustained growth while many in the travel industry have seen their companies struggle and while the actual number of passengers travelling out of the UK declined.

Looking to the future, we couldn’t be more excited about where we’re going. We’re about to launch our fantastic new site which continues the tradition of making airport parking incredibly easy to book, but also adds a whole host of new products for our much valued customers to delve into.
