Gail in training …

Posted by gail

Just a quick update on my 10k for 10k attempts, I am still attempting to train the dogs on my lengthy walks along the beach and actually thoroughly enjoying it, the weather is improving and my husband Ray and I stroll hand in hand along the seashore until of course he has to collect any doggie deposits in the scented nappy sacks that I supply for him, (he complains because they are usually a pinky colour) then I manage to keep a distance of at least 5 foot. The dogs think it’s wonderful and are still consuming the cheese treats at a great rate.

Of course it does pose some problems, this week the dogs suddenly took off over the sand dunes for no apparent reason so Ray set off at a gallop to catch them, when all 3 had been missing for quite awhile I was getting a little worried so decided to scale the biggest sand dune to see if I could see them. This turned out far more difficult than expected, I ended up looking as elegant as King Kong scaling the side of the Empire state Building (felt equally exhausted) I am embarrassed to say I ended up on my hands and knees scrabbling for the top to see Ray miles away but no sign of the dogs luckily I have a dog whistle I don’t like blowing it as everyone looks, but promptly started blowing like a mad thing luckily both dogs bounded up the dune to greet me Ray heard me from a distance and came trotting back too so even though I might not be exactly fit as yet at least the dogs and are Ray are getting trained to the whistle. I WILL manage the 10k walk at his rate with energy to spare Yeah right!  Please feel free to feel sorry for me and put a tick in the box to donate £1 to Donnas Dream House next time you are on our web site making your booking.

SkyPark staff in 10k charity run training

Well back at work at last after two weeks holiday, didn’t have anything planned it was just a break while the grandchildren are off on holiday from school. Thoroughly enjoyed it though, took my 6 month old puppy Ruby and my daughters 3 year old dog Macey (both King Charles Cavaliers) onto the beach most days with 2 of the grandchildren, Bradley and Madison and let the dogs off the lead for the first time. It was scary but its surprising how obedient they are for a lump of cheese (the dogs not the grandchildren).  Managed to walk about 3 miles getting in good practise ready for our sponsored charity walk on Sunday 9th May - we are entering the Blackpool 10k again. We’ll be running in aid of http://www.donnasdreamhouse.co.uk.

There will be 3 levels of people taking part from SkyPark: – Runners – Fast Walkers – Walkers. Unfortunately they do not have crawlers as I would fit better into that category. Taking the dogs meant getting them clean after such an event; twice they went into the sea (including grandchildren). I had to recuperate with a class of wine and a good book once they were sorted out. I need much more practise and have promised to go walking with my eldest granddaughter Chelsey at least three evenings a week but have managed to put it off so far.

Still, it’s for such a good cause and therefore needs serious consideration. I will keep you up to date with my progress!
